The word “cyclic” means: revolving or recurring in cycles; characterized by a recurrence in cycles. "Cyclic" reminds audiences that every form of story starts with a beginning, moves toward a middle and culminates with an ending. “Sĭk'lĭk” is the phonetic spelling of the word "cyclic." “Sĭk'lĭk” is also an abbreviation for the words “sick lyric.” The sole purpose of Sĭk'lĭk is to provide a medium for students to exercise their creativity by targeting an issue of substance through rhyme or lyrics. Impossible Possibilities is teaming up with the Fort Worth National Poetry Slam Team to host a series of open mike events throughout the DFW area starting in the fall of 2010. The spoken word format is open to middle and high school students attending schools in Tarrant and Dallas counties. Students competing in the Sĭk'lĭk events will have their video performances posted on the Impossible Possibilities' website. There is no time limit outlined for the entries. Impossible Possibilities will not censor any of the video performances as long as the subject matter is integral to the overall message conveyed. However, the organization will not post videos that use explicative language or language that is deemed offensive or inappropriate. Impossible Possibilities asks students to provide a thought-provoking and stimulating message. These messages can center on real-world issues that correspond to experiences that normal students endure. Sĭk'lĭk challenges a person's abilities in originality, content selection and overall presentation. Impossible Possibilities is working to bring in special guests to perform as the program advances. Are you up to the challenge?
